Simeon – it really was an extrordinary trip, and the most fascinating aspect was that the kids that we met viewed the world through Google’s lens. We spend so much time thinking about what we’re doing to the web – mashing it up, creating it, generating content and knowledge – that I forgot just how many people in the world simply consume.

we “forgot just how many people in the world simply consume”. so true. we’re so used to be always on, always producing, we forget what a small minority we are. Have you been to a UK school? You know they still tell kids that wikipedia is unreliable? They still teach them powerpoint, and never mention blogs!
As for Africa, There’s so much of content / knowledge creation going on. Some of the most exciting stories of how the web is used to empower individuals & communities are from there. Check out -/world/sub-saharan-africa/ blog/ d.com/ tm
